HP Color LaserJet 5550DN
HP 5550dn printer
I am getting a message on my printer that the fuser output needs cleaning. I have removed the fuser and clean it with the brush that comes with the printer and I am still getting that message and my printer will not operate. The message that I am getting says ( clean fuser output and replace black cartridge.

It is telling your to clean the fuser output which includes the path from the inside of the printer at the top. There is a color registration unit that needs to be cleaned along with the bottom of the output opening when you remove the fuser. The spot I am referring to is the opening you see when you remove the black toner cartridge also not just the top of the printer where the fuser sits. There will usually be a lot of purple toner build up that needs to be removed. Also as the last poster indicated most times that message goes away even without cleaning if you just replace the black toner cartride.

You are still not telling us anything. First off it does not tell you to clean the fuser but to clean the fuser input. The fuser input is the area above the black toner cartridge below the metal plate the fuser sits on. It is usually coated with purplish toner. Now you say you replaced the black toner. Replace means putting in a new OEM black toner cartridge. I would not use remanuafactured ones and make sure the new one is OEM HP. You also want to clean the color registration assembly which is in the same area above the black toner and use a lint free cloth and clean the clear plastic lens of the assembly. Also go to the information menu and have it display the event log and post the last few error messages.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to prolong the life of the
obscenely expensive color cartridges in this beast?
